Our Faith - What Is Christianity?

Our Faith

As Christians, we are all on a journey of faith together.  We’re all at different stages on the journey, and in our churches we want everyone to experience the grace and love of God for themselves.  We regularly offer courses for people who want to find out about the Christian faith, and also for people who’ve been Christians for a while and want to refresh and deepen their faith.

Faith means trust:  so growing our faith in God involves our heart as well as our head.  Faith isn’t just finding out facts about God. Yes, we need some knowledge to get us started, but faith is much more about opening ourselves to God and his love – and being prepared for that to change us.

As Christians we believe that in Jesus, God has come very close to us.  Jesus walked this earth before us, and that with Jesus as our companion and guide we can travel through life differently.  We can live and travel as pilgrims. We set our sights on God’s kingdom of justice and peace; and our journey home to God becomes more meaningful and joyful, and the world a better place.

The Bible is where we find out about God, and especially the Gospels, which tell us about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. You can read the Gospel of Mark here.

Baptism (or christening) is where the Christian journey begins. You can be christened at any age – it’s never too late!

Christianity isn’t just about what we do on Sunday, it’s about how we live each moment of life.  The bread and wine of Holy Communion is the “food for the journey” that gives us strength of to face the challenges of life.  Prayer is a way of becoming conscious of God’s presence with us, and praying helps stay attuned to God’s loving purposes for us and our world.
