A World Premier at Aston!

On Sunday the 9th June 2024, by way of celebrating RSCM music Sunday, the choir premiered a piece of music specifically written for our church by Joseph Shaw, a young talented Yorkshire composer. The piece is the Eucharistic hymn, ‘Ave Verum Corpus’, meaning ‘Hail true body’, that dates to the 13th century. First discovered in a Franciscan manuscript, its words have been most attributed to Pope Innocent VI.
Joseph has written a contemporary setting to the hymn that the choir enjoyed learning and performing during the celebration of RSCM music Sunday.
