New DOM!
We are pleased to announce that here at All Saints, we have appointed a new Director of Music. Please welcome Elliott Walker...
Elliott Walker is a young church musician based in South Yorkshire. Elliott currently holds the position of Director of Music & Organist at St. Paul’s Masbrough, a post he has held since 2014.
Studying at York St. John University, Elliott obtained his degree in English Literature with a dissertation exploring the transmission and appropriation of Anglican Hymns. After this, he attained a Masters in Music from the University of York with a specialism in English Church Music. Elliott’s academic work within church music was embellished by presenting online conferences and presentations on the Musical Implications of the Oxford Music within Parish Churches. Elliott continues his organ studies under the tutelage of Alexander Woodrow, Director of Music of Leeds Minster.
Outside of church music, Elliott accompanies and directs Masbrough Community Choir and privately teaches piano. He also accompanies various choirs and soloists for concerts and examinations. In 2019, he was employed as a Centenary Project Worker for Rotherham Minster, a role that encompasses music work with teaching work in several schools. This harnesses musical learning to different school children in Rotherham. He has recently conducted 80 children for the Choral Outreach Concert at Rotherham Minster.
Elliott has a very varied musical taste that ranges from the Tudor anthems of Byrd to Fleetwood Mac and anything in-between! His favourite musical is ‘Hamilton’ and film, ‘The Great Gatsby.’
Outside of work, Elliott enjoys going on short-distance (and occasional long-distance…) runs. He also enjoys visiting the theatre and opera houses for live performances. Elliott’s ‘chosen Mastermind topic’ is the Titanic as has rather tailored knowledge on this subject. He relishes the opportunity to travel and visit new places with his partner, Emily. His favourite biscuit is Jammie Dodgers and enjoys a glass of Bombay Sapphire gin!
“I’m very much looking forward to joining the team and family at Aston and guiding a fantastic choral tradition built by exceptional predecessors!”
